What is the Swing Shack dance social?
The Charleston can be known for its 1920s flapper styling and 1930 Swing Dance styling.
Empire Swing teaches a variety of swing dance styles the Charleston is a faster dance, you perform solo dance or you can dance it with a partner.
The dance was most popular throughout the 1920’s amongst “scandalous” men + women who shed the stuffy etiquette of their parents’ generation + wanted to flap their arms, kick up their heels, + let loose – hence the term ‘flappers.”

How to learn the Charleston?
You can learn this fun dance at the monthly Swing Dance Party called Swing Shack. Alternatively, you could join Empire Swing as part of our weekly swing dance lessons that run in Paddington on Monday or Wednesday nights (more details here>>>)
The lessons are part of beginner dance classes for adults that set out in an 8-week block. Each night you learn to dance some easy routines that help you remember the basic moves of swing dancing. You will learn East Coast Swing, Jive, Charleston building up to Lindy Hop.
Private lessons are a great way to learn swing dancing, whether you can’t make it to classes, or you want to complement your dance classes. (Get One Now>>>)
